In my website era
Circa the 2010s–a time of digi cams, big sunglasses and ballet flats, it’s clear the ‘10s have returned. So, I’m bringing back the blog. And maybe my iPod shuffle.
For real though, I wanted a platform to venture deeper into my writing. Working across editorial has provided that for me–however, I feel like my pieces are scattered around in a range of places and don’t have their own home. Now they do, my website.
With no publication requirements, the world (my website) is my oyster. It’s low-key giving ‘my house, my rules,’ so I could write a song if I wanted to. I’ll leave that to Mr Sheeran and our girl Taylor though.
I’ve always found myself fascinated by a range of different subjects. I initially studied science and analysed rat embryos for a hot minute, before transferring to Media Communications with a Journalism major. Given my love of talking, gathering information, reading and writing – this degree felt so aligned. Plus now, I’m a a qualified shit-talker.
Even after ditching science, I definitely retained my constant desire to learn. Knowledge or uncovering new or unfamiliar is what keeps me stimulated and sane. Without it – I feel stagnant, agitated and bored.
So my website (I think I’ll call her Webby-b) will be anything from informative pieces with experts on what I find intriguing to fluffy round-ups and wishlists. There will be iconic stories about places I’ve been, people I’ve met or things I’ve tried – plus practices that are enhancing or adding purpose to my life.
As for categories, anything from health and science to art and fashion–plus lots of layers in between. The pieces I always feel the most proud of are centred on themes that resonate with me, so I’m going to guide my writing by that.
Expect variety. I’m practical and love tangible pieces of advice, but I’m also creative and whimsical. Webby-b (already decided I hate that) will be a blend of these traits.
As a reference point, I’ve chucked some of my current likes and dislikes below, however, my preferences fluctuate a lot. Once, there was a time I hated avocado. I guess now I’m just basic.
